6924 Grasswood Ave. residence
Built
6924 Grasswood Avenue, Malibu, CA, USA
Addition and renovations to an existing 1950’s modernist ranch house in the Point Dume neighborhood of Malibu. The addition places a new master bedroom and bath in line with an expanded living and dining room. The continuous open spaces have sliding glass walls to open to the view of the Pacific Ocean and Santa Monica Bay. Sliding and swinging glass doors separate each of the spaces. The wood and steel framing of the addition is left exposed and enhanced by GWB ‘clouds’ that frame activity areas with recessed lighting. Clerestory lighting expresses the boundary between new and existing. The dramatic continuous roof plane of the new addition, sheathed in gray metal, emphasizes the direct relationship between the house, the site, and the view.
