Set within Culver City's manufacturing zone, this project was a renovation of an industrial space to create a new middle school gymnasium, two theater spaces, and a library that have daylighting, clerestory windows, and an open structure. It is part of a 4-building interconnected campus.
The program included a full size basketball court, 2 side courts, volleyball courts and a center curtain. The fully equipped performing arts theater seats 160. It includes pre-set lighting and scene controls, and a teaching audio visual control center.There are rehearsal rooms, a chorus room and a computer music center.
The scope of the project and program included 6 middle school classrooms, a computer lab, a commons space, and a middle school library. Outdoor playgrounds, drop-off zones, and paking were re-configured to take better advantage of the limited site area. This is the first of three major building addtions completed by Albert Group for the Willows Community School.
