105 S. Doheny Dr. apartments

Built

105 S Doheny Dr, Beverly Hills, CA 90211, USA

The building sits on a square corner lot on Doheny Dr. between the Santa Monica Blvd./Melrose junction and Burton Way. This part of Doheny, just before it begins to slope up into the Hollywood Hills, contains many mid-rise apartment buildings and condominiums.

The building schematic architecture is 5 residential wood (Type IIIA) stories on top of two concrete parking levels. There are two garage entrances: one off Alden and one off the alley. The top floor of residential units are double-height units with a mezzanine level in the space and views of palm-lined Doheny and the hills.

The units are arranged on both sides of a a roughly T-shaped corridor. Two main stair cores and one elevator serve the building. The exterior walls alternate between stucco and tan brick siding. The windows are surrounded with black aluminum siding, and the unit balcony railings are black-painted steel. The top of the building has a trellis "crown.

The challenge was to design a living environment that reflects and respects the scale and gestalt of the surrounding community. The result is a building which anchors, both literally and metaphorically, the intersection of Beverly Hills, West Hollywood and Los Angeles.
